Filters everything your Mac plays: browsers, Spotify, video calls, games.

  • macOS 14.2 or newer (it uses the Core Audio process tap added in 14.2)
  • On first start, allow nomus to record system audio (Privacy & Security, Screen & System Audio Recording)

Linux

Filters everything your PC plays, through a PipeWire output called nomus.

Requirements

  • A Debian-family system with PipeWire 0.3.49 or newer: Ubuntu 24.04, Debian 12, Linux Mint 22, Pop!_OS 24.04. Only a .deb is offered.
  • Ubuntu 22.04 and Linux Mint 21 use PulseAudio by default and are not supported; nomus says so when it starts there.
  • Install: sudo apt install ./nomus_*.deb
  • Checks for updates at launch; turn it off under About, Check for updates

Filters what other apps play on your phone.

Requirements

  • Android 10 or newer
  • A one-time setup so nomus can mute the originals: one command from a computer, or wireless debugging on Android 11+. Setup guide
  • Filters apps that allow audio capture. Most video, podcast and social apps do; YouTube is tested. Some music and film services block capture, among them Spotify, SoundCloud, Netflix, Disney+ and Prime Video. They play normally, unfiltered, and nomus tells you which ones they are. Which apps work
  • No internet permission: the app cannot use the network

Every app ships the same model. Its sha256 is d649b6b26f70df1a94cddbe0e8190e2ae72475b97b05dcebfe5df81285d4162d.

Windows and iPhone

Windows: use the Chrome extension. A Windows app is not planned: Windows lets an app copy what other apps play but not silence the original, so a whole-system filter would need a signed kernel audio driver.

iPhone and iPad: not possible. iOS does not let an app process the audio of other apps.
